Help a Child
Imagine being six years old and living in a home where you are physically and/or sexually abused. Imagine the scars you may bear on your body and the scars that would be etched upon your soul. Saint Augustine Youth Services (SAYS) is a private, not-for-profit agency which serves boys ages six to eighteen who bear those scars. SAYS is about rescuing these children and providing them with an alternative future from the one shaped by their home environments.
The growing need for services necessitated the construction of a larger facility for SAYS than the one in downtown St. Augustine. Through the support of members of our larger community, a new campus was constructed on U.S. 1 south. It includes two therapeutic group homes for boys ages six to seventeen and a pre-independent living group home, a step-down program for boys fourteen to eighteen, who have graduated from the therapeutic group home.
While the construction has been completed and the new facility occupied, it is not completely paid for, and every dollar that is required for paying a mortgage is a dollar not available for services for these children. Memorial would like to be a partner in liberating these funds for the support and care of these boys. Our goal is to raise $5,000, which is the cost of one room in the new facility. Our congregation’s name will be listed among those who have helped to make the facility a reality. It is a relatively small amount of money, but it can make a considerable difference.
Please consider a generous gift to the special offering being received on Sunday, April 28, for the children of St. Augustine Youth Services.
