We have an amazing group of teenagers and youth leaders at Memorial Presbyterian Church. The keystone of our Youth Ministry is found in our emphasis on nurturing youth and their families while helping them to connect to the extended Christian family of MPC.
All of our teenagers meet in grade-level classes on Sunday morning for Sunday School classes. These classes are taught by an energetic team of adults who love Jesus Christ and love kids.
MPC Youth Ministry is led by a team of caring adults who love the Lord and love middle and high school students!
During the school year, Youth Sunday School meets from 9:30-10:30am in the upper room of Fellowship Hall. Students get a free breakfast from the church café, and then split into separate middle school and high school classes. Middle School Sunday School is taught by our amazing volunteer Monica Hicks in room 204 (the room with the fuzzy chairs J). High School Sunday School is taught by the Director of Youth Ministry, Katherine Sykes in the Youth Loft on the 3rd floor.
We have a weekly Youth Group gathering during the school year that meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm in Fellowship Hall. This is a time for food, fun and fellowship with friends and God! Each week involves dinner, active games, praise and worship, and small group discussion/Bible study! Occasionally throughout the year, Youth Group is spent doing community outreach projects such as cooking for the homeless or fun events like going to Rebounderz trampoline park!
2:42 is our Wednesday night youth gathering that meets during FEAST, from 5:20-7:00pm during the school year. Named for Acts 2:42 about the fellowship of the early church, this is a time to slow down in the middle of a busy week and enjoy spending time with other believers. To give our minds a needed rest, there is no in-depth Bible study; instead, we eat together, sing a few praise songs, play a fun game and pray for each other. It’s our tradition to end the night with ice cream bars!
Retreats, Conferences and Mission Trips
Every year we attend the Middle School and High School Retreats at Camp Montgomery in Starke, Florida, which take place in the fall and winter. During the summer, the middle and high school students each take a separate week-long trip, which can be a mission trip through an awesome organization like Appalachian Service Project or Youth Works; the Montreat Middle School Conference in Maryville, Tennessee; the Montreat Youth Conference in Montreat, North Carolina; or Triennium, a gathering for Presbyterian high school students, at Purdue University. These retreats and trips are always meaningful and fun, and are often life-changing experiences that help form the faith lives of students who attend!
MPC Youth Ministry is not just to students, it is to parents, too! We recognize that parents are the #1 role model and impact on their child’s life of faith, and we want to come alongside them, support them and pray for them as they navigate the road of raising tweens and teens! Twice a year, we hold a parent seminar that gives parents the opportunity to connect with other parents, express concerns and hear valuable insights from speakers like Mary Clukey, who is the Chair of the Youth Ministry Committee and has raised two wonderful kids!
