From Pastor Davies – 1/4
A sign in a dry cleaners read, “No matter how bad the stain is, we’ll take it out…..and sew up the hole.” We all have clothing stains that are impossible to remove. No matter how much stain remover we apply or how many times we soak and wash the items, they simply won’t come clean. How disappointed we are when the stained item happens to be one of our favorite things to wear. With regret, we toss it aside, never to wear it again.
In a way, we’re not unlike our clothes. There are stains in our lives that we can’t seem to wash away. We try to remove them ourselves, and we end up making things worse – cutting holes in our lives and our relationships. But unlike the way we give up on our discarded stained and torn clothes, God never gives up on us. By God’s grace our stains and sins are washed away and we are made clean. And like a skilled seamstress, God sews up the holes we’ve made in our lives so that the “repairs” are invisible. No matter how bad our “stains” may be, God can help. God will forgive us and make us whole. All we have to do is ask.
Join me this Sunday when in worship we will renew our baptism vows. Have a blessed week.
